The Eta Chi Chapter includes women educators from Poway and Rancho Bernardo. Please contact President Suzanne Roy for more information.

Eta Chi sisters like to stay busy. This year so far, we have had two “Out of Meeting Experiences” at the Domaine Artefact Winery in Escondido. We are planning a Road Scholar Trip to Cumberland Falls Kentucky in April 9 through the 15th. There may be some spaces available if you would like to join us. Go to www.roadscholar.org and sign up for trip # 6722RJ on line and then contact Dian Self to be sure to be added to our group.
We are excited for our upcoming celebration of Dr. Seuss’ Birthday at the 4S ranch branch of the San Diego County Library. The children’s librarian there was previously at Ramona, where our Iota Rho sisters put on quite the event each year. When she transferred to our area she immediately went online to find the closest DKG chapter and a beautiful partnership was born! This will be our third year following in our Iota Rho sister’s footsteps.
Our Christmas party was held once again at our member Susan Davis’ home. The silent auction was a great success thanks to our member Jan McLean’s talented husband, Hugh. His beautiful items made from Wine Casks put us over the top. We raised more than $600! Hugh will be crafting and donating a beautiful Lazy Susan for our Area X auction item.
What do we do with that money, you may ask? This year we provided 2 scholarships to Poway Unified teachers who wanted to attend the San Diego Master Gardener’s “Gardening with Class” seminar. We also provided “seed money” for them to start a school garden in the district. Our own Master Gardener Pam Kirpalani headed this up and got our DKG logo on the event’s swag bags along with a brochure.
Our proudest accomplishment this year is the establishment of the Mary Dversdall Escamilla Malawi Scholarship. Our beloved Mary will be leaving us too soon. Before she passes, we want her to know that her work with orphan children in Malawi will go on. We have established a yearly scholarship to pay the public secondary school tuition for one girl in Malawi, “The Warm Heart of Africa”. We will be working with Mary’s chapter of the Go Go Grandmothers (http://www.gogograndmothers.com) to locate a deserving student.
